Before the introduction of this paragliding sport, the scenic Yelagiri had only the boating facility in the stream and lake at the foothills for the tourist. But today it has many attractions for tourists and the latest addition is paragliding.  Yelagiri Hills has now been developed as an ideal destination for adventure sports enthusiasts, particularly those who are fond of paragliding. The adventure sports lover can now enjoy their holiday here.

Dharmendra Prasad Yadav, District Collector of Vellore, said, "Yelagiri is a well connected town. It`s near both to Chennai and Bangalore. Well-connected roads and easy access of transportation can make it a good tourist destination. Earlier, there were not many tourist attractions, but with the coming up of paragliding facility, we are hoping for a growth in tourism in Yelagiri." 


Yelagiri Flying Season

March / April - Light winds E / SE , light mid day thermals , Take off site at Jayakrishna Thundershower may start in mid April. High probability of overdevelopment. May / June - Medium / strong winds S / SW ( not flyable during south winds ), thermals medium strong, scattered thundershowers, Take off site at Ramakrishna. July / August – Medium strong winds SW / W, strong mid day thermals, ( scattered thundershowers with general strong wind ), take off site at Ramakrishna and Hanuman,  when the wind is too cross from the SW do not fly atHanuman as side rotors are present. September – Pleasant weather with occasional showers, winds light  medium SW /W, thermals medium, take off site atRamakrishna and Hanuman, again do not fly from Hanuman when the wind has a south tendency. October – Flyable till start of monsoon which the official date is the 15th . November / December – Monsoon rains N / NE. January / Febuary – NE winds ( no take off sites in that orientation ) fields are under cultivation.
